Stoodleigh Round Up for 2017

Below is a round up of 2017 news from Stoodleigh Church and Community:

2017 saw a very successful coffee morning in May at the Old Stable where over £300 was raised for the church.   As well as the usual raffle, two lovely bird feeders were donated and raffled.   June saw cream tea at Parkhouse Water for Steph Jeffs to meet those in the village who contributed so much to the church by way of flower arranging, etc. and being a Friend of St Margaret's.

The Dog Show on 12th August 2017 was a very popular event held on one of the few fine days so far this August.  There seemed to be more dogs than ever and the Judge, Chris Coles, had a busy time.   Cream teas and Pimms were enjoyed as people relaxed after guessing the number of sweets in a jar, the name of a bear and hoping for success in the raffle, tombola and pound in a jar.  We were enormously grateful that yet again Fred and Pat Robinson opened up their paddock for this annual event.

August Bank Holiday Monday was a beautiful day and some forty people enjoyed a convivial time over a ploughmans lunch in the beautiful setting at Champles Barn shaded by a selection of gazebos.  £316 was raised at this social event. It was good to have Steph and Robert with us for this occasion.

Harvest Supper on 2nd October was a great success and the change to skittles brought out a competitive spirit with those taking part.  Over £370 was raised for Devon Air Ambulance.

Over £200 was raised at a coffee morning on 31st October 2017 kindly hosted by Mrs Enid Hamadullah.   It was lovely to welcome newcomers to the Village as well as catching up socially with so many people.

The Christmas Fayre at the beginning of December raised £1,186. There were many stalls "mostly made in Stoodleigh" and we were over-whelmed by the generosity of the donors to the raffle.

The Carol Service nearly did not happen because of a fall of plaster from the roof but thankfully it was repaired in time.  The annual Carol Singing raised £142 and a donation was made to the Market Bus, the balance helping towards the repair of the roof.
