Stoodleigh Round Up for 2016
Below is a round up of 2016 news from Stoodleigh Church and Community:
Carol Singing round the village on 20th December was enormous fun and we are grateful to all those who welcomed us into their homes. We were very thrilled to be able to add a further £130 to the Marie Curie fund set up in memory of Michael Honnor whose funeral had taken place earlier in the day.
The annual Carol Service on 18th December was led by Steph Jeffs, our new Rector, who was warmly welcomed to Stoodleigh. The church was packed and the children performed a short Nativity Play concluding with young Lottie Rigamonti playing "Away in a Manager" on the organ. The choir this year had swelled to twenty and gave great support to the congregational singing with splendid descants. Joe Strong sang the first verse of "Once in Royal David's City" and in addition there were two choir items, "Christmas Lullaby" by John Rutter and "The Three Kings" by Peter Cornelius, in which we welcomed Keith as the soloist. The Family Fun Dog Show on 13th August was a happy event held in brilliant afternoon sunshine after a damp morning. A considerable amount was raised shared between the church and the parish hall.
The annual Ploughmans on August Bank Holiday was held at Champles Barn on a lovely sunny day and was a great success. This was followed by a busy September which saw a coffee morning at Furzeclift, a drawing-room performance of "The Gondoliers given by the Barle Singers at Champles Barn and at the beginning of October, Harvest Supper. We are grateful for all the support raising funds towards St Margaret's. In addition, it was good to be able to send £100 to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust as a result of the Harvest Supper auction.
The annual Christmas Fayre in the Parish Hall on Saturday 10th December was a great success and over £1,100 was raised for the church. Many thanks for all who helped decorate the Hall, had stalls and came to support this event. Father Christmas got delayed by the fog but otherwise all things ran smoothly!
