News: Update 10 January 2021

This week

Sadly, very sadly, in light of the increased risk of Covid-19 in this area, the catastrophic strain on the NHS, and the age of most of our congregation we have decided that, for the moment, holding services in multiple locations is not a risk worth taking. This is a temporary measure, due to the current, unprecedented crisis, and it will be reviewed in a few weeks.

The Conference Call/Zoom service will continue as usual at 10.00am on Sunday morning.

A shortened form of Holy Communion (no sermon, one reading) will take place each week at St Catherine's Withleigh at 11.15am. If you wish to receive Holy Communion please book your seat via the church office - and wrap up warm!

Please join us on Sunday 10th January on Zoom or Conference Call at the usual time of 10.00am.

Coffee Morning

Our next coffee morning will be on Wednesday 13 January 2021 at 10.30am. In times when we have restricted social contact, it is good to get together and have a chat. It’s not the same as meeting face to face, but we always have a laugh, I nearly always find out something interesting and new, genuine friendships have been made – and I can have my coffee just the way I like it! Come and join us – even if you haven’t been before.

Please see the Resources page for connection details...

What’s ahead

On Wednesday 13 January The Rotary Club have organised a fund rising evening on Zoom with money going to CHAT. Simon Reeves is the guest speaker. Please contact the church office for further details.

The Bible Study starts up again on Wednesday 20 January at 7.30pm. More details in next week’s update.

Online Services

Our Christmas Online Celebration is on the website. Do please watch it and share it with others.

Don’t forget you can listen to the Sunday service on the website. Once on the website, click on ‘Resources’ and then ‘Past Services’. We will be recording every service from now on so you can catch up or listen again.

A word from Steph

In this time of continued uncertainty with turmoil all around us, it is difficult not to feel anxious or afraid. None of us wanted to start this new year like this. I have found myself thinking about Minnie Louise Haskin’s famous poem, which was quoted by George V1 in one of his Christmas broadcasts:

God Knows by Minnie Louise Haskins (1875-1957)

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”
So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night.
And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East.
Let’s place our hands into the hands of God as we face this new year together.

With my love and prayers for your continued well-being and safety,

Steph
